CARING DAY- Think of someone (not a kid friend) who would like to hear from you. If you called them it would really brighten their day. Brainstorm and make a list of 10 people. Put the list in the front of your binder. Pick one person. Think about a conversation. What will you ask them about themselves and their life? (example: how has work been lately?) What will you share with them about your life? Write down ideas on a piece of paper. You may call that person this morning or this afternoon when I am home.
Who knew that my moment of brilliance would create such havoc in our household? Hailey has cried, marched around the house, slammed her bedroom door, and has now delivered me a list of book authors she could write to. Authors! And notice writing when I said calling. I kindly told her that this assignment was supposed to be about reaching out, getting outside of our box, and seeing how we could positively affect others. I patiently explained to her it was about making connections and thinking deeper than the usual friend we talk to every day. Her reply was, "Yeah, well, you can think deeper Mom."
Zoey hasn't responded any better, although much more direct and not quite so emotional. She just informed me that I simply should have assigned it to them for their research paper topic. "And this isn't even a real school assignment," she said, "you just made it up!"
Sometimes I am the only one who thinks I am brilliant!.............Aubrey
