We are a family of five living in a small rural community in the mountains. We garden, farm, and homeschool. Our life is chaotic with all of our animals and such but family time is very important to us. So at the end of the day we always find time to hang out. We will use this site to journal and share our adventures!

Chickens that like eyeballs..?!?!?

So, we have 2 chickies in the house that we had to take away from their mom because she was trying to eat them. Yes, chickens are very rude cannibals. Anyway, we like to get the chickens out and hold them, while reading, or doing school work. Well Zoey has become...mildly obsessed with always having the chickies out. So she is sitting there doing her school work, and I am on the phone with my best friend and all of a sudden...She screams. I put the phone down for a second and ask what is wrong.

"IT PECKED ME IN THE EYEBALL!!"

Oh man. I walk over, take the chickies off the keyboard and put them back in their box under the red heat lamp.
Poor Zoey, I hope she doesn't have a hole in her retina.

Reconstructive Time Outs.

So. Mom, Hailey, Zoey and I are all in the kids bedroom. I just got back from work (cleaning up the horse pen for a neighbor) and when I walked into the house I found dad asleep on the couch, Mom talking to Hailey and Zoey about the 3 types of 'veins', Hailey in her bed making some amazing new creation, and Zoey on the floor be-dazzling. Shortly after I walk in mom becomes mildly frustrated with Zoey. First Zoe-bug is told to sit in the corner, facing the bookshelf. Shortly after that Zoey is told yes, she may go get a tissue, after a couple times asking. Zoey continues is not act the way mom wanted and is told to do 15 sit-ups on the exercise ball that is in our room. hehe. Zoey tries once and lands on her butt in front of the ball.
She tries again. The result is the same.
And then she tries again. And lands behind the ball. Wedged between the ball and the bean-bag chairs with her legs sticking straight up in the air.
"Help! Help!" she says over and over again.
Now usually she would have gotten people over to help, but the giggle she had going on as she was asking for help.....Eh. Made the situation seem like not a big deal.
Therefore, mom and I continued talking and Hailey continued creating the next big artistic creation.
lolz. Life is good.

Goats and Girls

I love Hailey’s chicks but I am glad to have an animal of my own. I have a cute goat named Brusier.
He is a one-year-old Boer goat. I also have an old laMancha goat. Her name is Fanny.

Me and my friend Isa love to play with Brusier and Fanny. We sometimes even take them for long walks. My goat Brusier is even more fun because I pay for his food and know that I did it by myself. My goats are my whole love and I hope to get more goats soon.---Zoey

Springtime Brings Baby Chicks

Around 25 days ago I put 8 eggs under one chicken and I put 7 eggs under another chicken.  Then a couple days ago I found one wet soggy chick and for the next day or two I went out every hour and checked for baby chicks.  After a while I had 4 baby chicks and the other 3 eggs did not hatch so we had to compost them.

Yolky

Since we had baby chicks we had to name them.  We decided to name them after one of our favorite movies, Ice Age the MeltDown.  So our first chick was named Peaches, our second was named Shelly, the third was named Yolky, and the fourth chick was named Eggbert.--Hailey
